1. Back up before changing anything
2. Decide whether the old hosting setup still fits
If one friend currently has to keep a PC online for everyone else, 1.0 is a good time to decide whether the group wants a dedicated server. Keen's current dedicated-server documentation says an idle server uses roughly 4.4 GB physical RAM and normal use should stay around/below about 6 GB, with roughly 30 GB free storage recommended.
Compare server cost per player →3. Agree progression rules before release night
A returning group can lose the fun quickly if one player races through new progression while others are offline. Decide in advance which milestones should wait: first new-region entry, major bosses/story events, world-setting changes and shared rare-resource spending.
Generate a co-op progression pact →4. Expect performance work, but benchmark your own setup
Keen Games says performance improvements are a major focus for 1.0, including lower- and mid-range systems. Treat that as a reason to re-test settings after launch, not a promise that every existing machine/server will behave identically.
5. Plan the first session as a return session
Do not make the first night a giant migration + boss attempt + mod reinstall. Use one session to verify saves, server access, controls/settings, storage, travel routes and shared goals. Then start the new progression.
