Deadlock Beginner Guide: What to Practice Before Chasing the Meta

Because Deadlock is still experimental, build durable habits: understand the objective, review one recurring mistake and test one fix at a time.

1. Start with access reality

Valve describes the current build as invite-only through existing playtesters, with no announced full release date. Avoid sites promising a guaranteed key or official unlock service.

2. Learn one hero at a time

Pick a hero you can practice consistently. Separate movement/aim execution from your understanding of abilities so you know why a fight went wrong.

3. Review positioning first

After dying, ask whether you fought with allies, entered hostile territory without a retreat and ignored visible warnings. A positioning mistake can hide behind a temporary balance complaint.

4. Track a single practice goal

Use the private match reviewer to keep one goal for the next match: retreat earlier, communicate before a rotation or hold a defensive ability for a threat.

5. Read changes directly

Review official patch posts before relying on last week's items or ability interactions. Avoid fixed numerical advice unless it is sourced and date-stamped.

Primary sources and update limits

Valve's store listing states that the build uses temporary artwork and experimental gameplay. Hero and item balance can change rapidly; for authoritative detail use official Steam patch posts.
