Old saves still work
Iron Gate says your old saves remain available after 1.0 and you can continue playing them. That means a restart is a choice, not a forced wipe.
Unexplored terrain matters
The official 1.0 FAQ says new biome generation works properly in areas that have not already been explored. If you intend to keep an old world, avoid exploring future-target regions before you are ready for their generated content.
A new world gives the intended progression experience
The developers explicitly recommend starting from scratch for the best 1.0 experience. This is especially useful for a group where some players skipped bosses or progression stages and want a shared run again.
Treat mods as temporarily fragile
Valheim has no official mod support, and the 1.0 FAQ warns that mods may need time to become compatible after major updates. If a save matters, test carefully and keep backups before assuming an old mod stack is safe.
1.0 is still receiving hotfixes
The launch has already been followed by 1.0.x hotfixes. Before a major server migration or long expedition, check current official patch notes so a recently fixed issue does not become part of your permanent plan.
Use this as a plan, not a guarantee
Valheim is actively patched. Test tactics in your current world and adjust for world modifiers, group size and your own gear. The goal here is to reduce avoidable losses and wasted building, not to promise a perfect strategy.
