Unity Grok Build Plugin 2026: Official Unity Skills & Project QA Checklist

Unity released its official plugin for Grok Build on October 1, 2026. It works with Unity 6+ and carries the same 30+ Unity-written skills used by Unity's official Codex and Claude Code integrations.

What does the official Grok Build plugin add?

Unity says Grok Build receives the same Unity-maintained skills as Codex and Claude Code. The covered areas include UI Toolkit and uGUI, 2D and tilemaps, URP and Shader Graph, audio, navigation and physics, IAP and LevelPlay, multiplayer, web and localization.

Does it work with older Unity versions?

The official announcement states Unity 6 and above. If a production project is still on an older editor, do not assume the same setup or guidance applies unchanged.

How do I install the Unity Grok Build plugin?

Unity's official install command is grok plugin install Unity-Technologies/unity-agent-plugin --trust. Grok Build also exposes the plugin marketplace: open /marketplace, search for Unity and install it there.

Only use the official Unity-Technologies/unity-agent-plugin repository or another source you deliberately trust; the Grok --trust flag activates plugin capabilities.

How do I verify the Unity plugin installed correctly?

In Grok Build, type / and look for the Unity skills. The official repository also documents grok plugin list and grok plugin details unity as verification paths.

Is this a Unity Package Manager or Asset Store plugin?

No. Unity's documentation explicitly says the agent plugin is not a Unity Asset Store plugin/package and is not installed through Package Manager. It lives in the coding-agent workflow and can use Unity CLI capabilities when a skill needs to drive the Editor.

Is this a different Unity knowledge base from Codex?

No. Unity says the skills for Grok Build, Codex and Claude Code are identical and maintained from one repository. That matters for teams because the Unity-specific guidance can stay consistent even when developers prefer different coding agents.

What still needs human verification?

An official skill does not know every project constraint. Verify scene and prefab references, materials, colliders, layers, texture budgets, package versions, platform settings and the actual target build after agent-made changes.

Use Git + small change sets

Let the agent change one focused area at a time, review the diff, open the scene, run the relevant gameplay path and keep a rollback point. A smaller verified change is easier to trust than a large cross-project rewrite.

Re-test imported assets after scripted edits

If the agent touches importers, prefabs, colliders or materials, validate the generated result in the Editor and in the target platform build. Textual correctness does not guarantee that serialized Unity assets still behave as intended.

Fast verification route

Agent finished the change? Run a project-specific preflight next.

The free Unity Asset Preflight Auditor focuses on common handoff and release problems that an AI coding workflow can still miss: broken references, materials, hierarchy, naming, collision and packaging risk.
